President of Ecuador travels to Iberoamerican Summit

Quito, March 24th (Prensa Latina) The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, traveled today to the Dominican Republic to attend the XXVIII. attend the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State or Government.

At the event, which will be held this Friday and Saturday in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Caribbean country, Lasso will assume the pro tempore presidency of this mechanism for political agreement and cooperation.

According to the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, the Andean country will take on this role for the first time and will focus its year in office on the areas of innovation, inclusion and sustainability.

In this context, three strategic axes have been proposed: alternative economies for development, food security and climate change, announced the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ecuador claims to be committed to Ibero-American values ​​in development, education, culture, science, technology and innovation, which is why it seeks to promote comprehensive projects and build more just, equitable and inclusive societies.

However, local media revealed today that Lasso was questioned about this trip, which comes in the middle of one of the strongest winters in recent years in the Andean country and has caused millions of dollars in casualties, flooded towns and several people killed, perished by the storm.

All this together with the security crisis that the South American nation is facing and the doors of a political trial against the President that could take place in the coming weeks if the Constitutional Court allows the request to conduct the trial to depose the ruler.
