The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) today approved Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s request to resign from his posts as a member of the Politburo and the Party Central Committee, President of Vietnam and Head of National Defense. Security Council for the period 2021-2026.

The Vietnamese News Agency (VNA) published that “the Central Committee of the PCV of the XIII. tenure today held a meeting to consider the proposals of the Politburo member, member of the governing body of this political organization, and to exchange views. President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Head of the Security and Defense Council for 2021-2026, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, to resign from office, stop working and retire.
The note highlights that Xuan Phuc, who was born into a family with revolutionary traditions, was an important leader of the PCV and the state, which grew from the grassroots and was appointed to various and important positions.
VNA adds that in his role as the country’s president for the 2016-2021 term, Xuan Phuc has made various efforts to lead the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which has yielded important results.
“However, Xuan Phuc takes the political responsibilities of a leader, following various officials including two vice prime ministers; Three ministers have committed violations and misdemeanors that have resulted in serious consequences. The two aforementioned deputy prime ministers resigned from their posts, while two of the ministers and various officials were prosecuted,” specifies VNA.
The publication adds that “Xuan Phuc, clearly aware of his responsibilities to the PCV and the people, has submitted an application to resign from his post, stop working and retire.” The news agency notes that the Central Committee of the party has granted his request, in accordance with the applicable regulations of the party and the state and taking into account his wish.
