President Xi advocates comprehensive development of ethnic groups in China

According to a report by Xinhua Agency, the president called on government authorities and the Chinese Communist Party to improve people’s living conditions and ensure that the benefits of development are equitably distributed among ethnic groups.

“It is necessary to establish a sound scientific and theoretical system for the Chinese people’s community,” Xi said.

According to the president, we must “cultivate the awareness that people of all ethnicities are in the same community, where they share joys and misfortunes and remain united through thick and thin.”

He also called for the integration of Marxist ethnic theories with the specific realities of China and traditional culture.

He advocated strengthening the education of people of all ethnic groups about the party’s theories, lines, principles and policies.

“Comprehensive efforts should be made to promote the standard spoken and written Chinese language and the use of uniform textbooks compiled by the state,” he added.

He also called on authorities to better tell the stories of the Chinese nation and intensify public communication about the sense of community.

In the Asian giant, 56 ethnic groups with their customs and dialects live side by side, with the Han ethnic group making up the majority with around 90 percent of the country’s total population.
