Pride March: LGBTQ police officers are not welcome

While appearing on QUB radio for an interview on Sophie Durocher’s show, the Pride Montreal general manager made a statement that startled the host. When asked about police presence at the August parade, Simon Gamache simply replied that there would be none.

We are talking about police officers who are members of the LGBTQ community and would like to attend the parade in uniform, not security guards.

“They are discriminatory,” shouted the host. They tell the police that we would like them better if they weren’t cops.

Mr. Gamache tried to soften this claim.

According to him, the decision was made due to tensions between law enforcement and some groups in the community. An explanation that did not satisfy Sophie Durocher at all.

“Do the 2023 cops have to pay for the 1970 cops?” asked the host.

Simon Gamache said he was in talks with the SPVM. He also described the exchange as an “interesting dialogue”. One thing is for sure: he’s sticking to his position for the time being. LGBTQ police officers in uniform, don’t look for them at the parade, there won’t be any.
