Priest burned alive in attack on Catholic church in Nigeria

Isaac Achi, a priest at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in KafinKoro, Paikoro Region, Nigeria, died after being burned alive in a fire started by intruders in the early hours of Sunday (15/01). .

According to Vatican News, the episode happened around 3 a.m. when a group of intruders attacked the vicarage. Security forces were dispatched to the scene and when they got there, the attackers exited the house and set it on fire, causing Father Isaac’s death. Next to him, Collins, another church priest, was injured in the back while attempting to escape.


The head of public relations of the state police, Wasiu Abiodun, reported that “the bandits tried to enter the residence but failed, and they set the house on fire and the priest was charred to death.”

Father Collins, who suffered a back injury in the incident, was taken to hospital for treatment. State Command Police Commissioner Ogundele Ayodeji said reinforcement teams have been sent to the area and “efforts are being made to apprehend the attackers. An investigation into the tragic attack has been launched.”
