That country’s head of government will represent Vielle Case County, as he has since 2000, while health chief Irving McIntyre will do so for Roseau Valley, the political force highlighted in a statement.

The DLP proposed new candidates for seats in the House of Assembly (parliament) in Paix Bouche, Cottage, Colihaut and Petite Savanne, according to the notice on the Government Information Service website.

Dominica’s two main opposition groups, the United Workers Party (UWP), with three current MPs, and the Dominica Freedom Party (PLD) announced last week that they would boycott the right to vote.

At least two independent candidates secured their place in the short race, and for their part, newly formed team Unity Dominica (TUD) called for a coalition to defeat executive power.

We need a renewed team for these unpredictable times, explained Skerrit himself in a previous television appearance, in office since January 8, 2004, one of the most experienced in the region.

He named climate change, the Covid 19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine as challenges for the island since he took office as head of government.

We must continue to be the beacon of hope and the option for those who want to see progress in the nation, the Prime Minister noted.

In 2019, the DLP won 17 of the 21 contested constituencies to renew members of the House of Assembly, two more than five years earlier.

The governmental structure of this island consists of a President, who serves a five-year term and is elected by Parliament; a prime minister chosen by the head of state; and the unicameral parliament.

Dominica has a population of approximately 75,000 while the number of registered voters is 70,541.
