LONDON – King Charles III. has invited Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, to his upcoming coronation, British media reported, as Harry dropped fresh bombshells in a weekend interview.
A spokesman for the Sussexes told the Times of London on Saturday that the couple “recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s Office regarding the coronation. We are not announcing an immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend at this time.” Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the reports.
The news that an invitation to Charles’s May 6 coronation had apparently landed – a glittering affair that will be seen by millions – comes as Harry said he’s always “felt different” from the rest of his family.
Harry’s remarks, which were circulated in Sunday newspapers in the UK, were made in an interview with Gabor Maté, a Hungarian-Canadian psychologist.
This interview, which was broadcast live on Saturday, focused on emotions and mental health. Harry did not bring up the request to vacate Frogmore Cottage, the residence where he and Meghan stayed during their infrequent visits to the UK. He also didn’t elaborate on whether they would be attending his father’s coronation in May.
Prince Harry and Meghan have been asked to ‘vacate’ Frogmore Cottage.
Since the release of Harry’s memoir Spare, which details his troubled relationship with his family, his and Meghan’s attendance at the coronation has been the subject of feverish speculation in the UK: will they be invited? Will you come? Will they overshadow Charles? Does anyone care?
But Harry has previously spoken out about wanting to mend ties with his family and hasn’t ruled out attending the coronation. When Harry was asked about it in January, he said: “The door is always open” and “the ball is theirs”. It’s unclear if his calculation of coming changed after being evicted from Frogmore.
During his interview on Saturday, Harry told Maté, “I’ve certainly felt a little different to the rest of my family all my life, in my younger years.”
“I felt strange in that container and I know my mother felt the same way, so it makes sense to me,” he said of his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 at the age of 12 came to life.
Harry said he felt “a great responsibility not to pass on any trauma or negative experiences I had as a child or as a growing man” and that he made sure to “smother his own children with love and affection.” .”
Prince Harry’s memoir attacks a family he wants to change. You have no comment.
Harry and Meghan retired as working royals in 2020 and now live in California with their two children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one. Archie’s fourth birthday is May 6, the day of the coronation.
In the 90-minute interview, the Duke also opened up about seeking therapy and using drugs to cope with the trauma of his mother’s death.
The Duke said he was initially worried about going to therapy, saying: “I thought if I went to therapy it would kill me and I would lose whatever I had left, whatever I had of mine.” mother could keep.”
“As it turned out, that wasn’t the case. I didn’t lose that – on the contrary,” he said. “I turned what I should have thought was sadness into trying to prove to her that I missed her by realizing that she just wanted me to be happy and that was a huge burden on mine Breast.”
He also said that cocaine “didn’t do anything for me,” but marijuana “really helped me.”
In their chat, Maté said he thinks the Duke has Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD. Harry joked in response, “Thanks for the free session.”
The couple also spoke about Harry’s ten years of service in the British Armed Forces and Afghanistan, where he served on two deployments.
Harry said he was a “terrific candidate” for the armed forces because of his troubled past. “I don’t know about the rest of the world, but certainly in the UK we tend to recruit people from broken families who are willing,” he said.
After Maté said he disagreed with the war, Harry replied, “There were many of us who didn’t necessarily agree or disagree, but you did what you were sent to do.”
Harry also described Meghan as “an extraordinary human being”.
“People said my wife saved me,” he said. “I was stuck in this world, she came from another world and helped me break out of it. My partner is an extraordinary person and I am eternally grateful for the wisdom and space she was able to give me.”
“We both had our own things with our families,” he added.
