Prince Harry, Meghan Markle vs. South Park: The brutal dig of the Sunrise hosts

Sunrise presenters Natalie Barr and David Koch have been stunned by reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “considering their legal options” after being mocked in South Park last week.

The episode, titled “The Worldwide Privacy Tour,” satirizes the royal couple’s demands for privacy while it’s on a promotional blitz for the Prince’s autobiography, “Waaaah” – a dig at Harry’s recent memoir, Spare.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers on Tuesday, Barr and Koch expressed disbelief that Harry and Meghan could “take themselves so seriously”.

“Is it really true that your lawyers are thinking of taking action? They couldn’t be that stupid. Oh! For God’s sake!’ Koch scoffed.

Barr found the whole situation preposterous and said it would be “such a fun litigation if it went ahead.”

Koch, whose dislike of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is well documented, said a lawsuit over a satirical portrayal would be disastrous for their public image.

“Everyone will turn around. If you didn’t hit on her, you will now because you just think, “What a bunch of idiots incapable of laughing at themselves,” he said.

Myers agreed, saying the British public is already “angered” by Harry and Meghan’s sensitivity to criticism, and Americans would certainly react with anger if they questioned the South Park creators’ freedom of speech.

“Right, you can’t take yourself too seriously and publicly ruin your family,” Barr said, referring to Harry and Meghan’s numerous public digs at the royal family.

The controversial episode, which premiered in the US on February 15, stars the ‘Prince and Princess of Canada’ – a young royal couple who are vocal about their privacy while commanding attention.

Wearing the exact same dusty pink outfit Meghan donned for Trooping the Color in 2018, the red-haired prince and his wife are seen promoting the prince’s book, Waaagh, the cover of which closely resembles Harry’s memoir Spare.

The episode is full of digs at the Sussexes, with main character Stan Marsh branding their cartoon equivalents “dumb prince and his dumb wife,” while Kyle Broflovski complains about the private jet parked outside their home.

It comes amid claims the Sussexes’ lawyers are “giving an eye” to South Park.

Royal commentator Neil Sean told Fox News that officials from the thin-skinned couple are watching the series closely for more attacks.

Meghan was apparently “upset and overwhelmed” by the way she was portrayed on the show, a source told The Spectator.
