Prince Harry sought therapy after speaking “cruelly” to Meghan Markle during an argument, he reveals in Spare.
The Duke of Sussex writes in the book, out Jan. 10, that he “got touchy” and “snapped” when a conversation with the “Suits” alum “took an unexpected turn” (via Us Weekly).
The 38-year-old royal recalls being “disproportionately sloppy angry” at Markle and addressing her “harshly” enough that “everything was in the room [came] to a standstill.”
After spending “a full 15 minutes apart,” Harry and the Deal or No Deal graduate, 41, finally spoke in their bedroom.
“She was quiet but said in a calm, even tone that she would never bear to be spoken to like that,” Harry writes. “I nodded.”

“It came from somewhere deep inside, somewhere that needed to be dug up, and it was obvious I could use some help with the work,” Harry recalls. “‘I tried therapy,’ I told her. ‘Willy said I should go. Never found the right person.’ [It] did not work.”
Markle replied, “No. …Try again.”
Harry has hinted at this interaction with his wife in the past, telling viewers of The Me You Can’t See in May 2021 that Markle helped him seek therapy.
“When she said, ‘I think you need to see someone,’ it was in response to an argument we had,” he explained at the time. “In that argument, without knowing it, I went back to 12-year-old Harry.”
In October of the following year, the Duke of Sussex credited therapy with renewed “confidence” and “perspective and great understanding” of its value.
Harry is open about his mental health in Spare, from past drug use to grieving the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
