Prince Harry continues to comment on the split in the British royal family.
He caught up with Anderson Cooper for a “60 Minutes” interview, described by CBS as Prince Harry’s “first US television interview,” in which he discussed his upcoming memoir “Spare” and his childhood, the loss of his mother and his life as Duke of Sussex I live in Britain and now in America.”
In a clip released on Monday, Cooper asked Prince Harry about the criticism he and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have faced of their decision to step back from royal duties but to publicly air their grievances about what led to the move.
King Charles’ second son reiterated that he had attempted to raise the matter privately.
“And every time I tried to do it privately, there were briefings and leaks and stories against me and my wife,” he said. “You know, the family motto is, ‘Never complain, never explain.’ It’s just a motto.”
The couple recently made headlines with their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which debuted last month. In it, the couple shared stories about their courtship and their views on how they were treated by the media and their respective families.
Prince Harry is also expected to go into more detail about his life inside and outside of the royal family in an upcoming television interview with British broadcaster ITV, in which he has said: “I want a family, not an institution.”
In a preview clip of the interview published on Monday, the Duke of Sussex said: “They have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile”, presumably in relation to the royal family.
“I would like to get my father back. I would like my brother back,” he told journalist Tom Bradby in a clip of the interview, due to air on ITV1 on Sunday 8 January.
The 60 Minutes interview with Prince Harry also airs Sunday on CBS.
