How is Christmas at Prince William and Co.? A former butler of King Charles spoke about it and revealed how “hysterical” it was sometimes in the royal family.
How’s Christmas with British royalty? Are they all wearing matching Christmas pajamas and gleefully singing classics like “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” together under the Christmas tree? Grant Harrold, who for a long time was allowed to play mouse and look behind the palace walls, is now telling the British “Express” what holidays are like for royalty.
Former butler talks about Christmas at Prince William and Co.
Grant Harrold is a former butler to King Charles, 74, and today an expert on etiquette who is frequently and happily asked on British television as a member of the royals about current news about the royal family and also comments at length on it. After all, hardly anyone comes closer to royalty on a day-to-day basis than its employees. When asked how the end of year festivities are going at Prince William, 40, and Co., he revealed that the celebrations have always been very happy. “Christmas was always exciting and I remember spending it with William, Harry and Kate Middleton. I remember one of my first Christmases when I was invited to a party at St. James’s Palace.” Who could forget such an invitation?!
King Charles + Co. Exciting vacation! That’s why tears must flow this Christmas

Harrold further reported:
“It was a sit down meal and I had lunch with Prince William. It was absolutely hysterical and we had a lot of laughs! There was a lot of laughing and joking and celebrating. It was nice to see him taking on the fun aspect of Christmas. It was like a work Christmas party but I must say that everyone behaved very well.”
Apparently, no one misbehaved – compared to a Christmas party you as a normal citizen know from work. Nobody drank too much or became abusive. Royalty simply knows how to behave.
“It was unique and surreal”
Celebrating Christmas with royalty is, of course, something special. “It was unique and surreal for me to work for them and then have lunch with Prince William, even though he was only 20 at the time.” After all, the former butler already knew about the position of the heir to the throne. “I thought it was a great thing to be able to sit down and have lunch with the future king.” After the meal, it was traditional to attend the service at Sandringham – Queen Elizabeth, † 96 years old, attached great importance to this. “The Queen was very strict about that and she liked it when the family got together.”
The First Christmas Without Queen Elizabeth
But with the death of the Queen, who closed her eyes forever on September 8, 2022, Christmas will definitely be “difficult”, as the royal expert suspects. The former head of the Royal Family will now be sorely missed this special Christmas holiday.
