Prince William is reportedly planning a “different coronation than King Charles” as he seeks to modernize the ceremony by scrapping “homage to the people”.

The Prince of Wales is set to give up the historic pledge after the Archbishop of Canterbury was met with disapproval for asking the public to pledge their allegiance to the king.

Following the negative response, in a break with tradition, the oath was amended to instead “invite” those wishing to express their support for the king to do so.

After his father’s coronation, a source close to Prince William told the Times: “There’s no way he’s going down that path or anything like it.”

The heir to the throne is said to be thinking about ways to evolve the old service to keep it “modern” and “relevant”.

A royal source told The Times: “He’s really thinking about how we can ensure his coronation sends the most relevant sentiment going forward?”

“He recognizes the fact that the coronation can be modern in 20 years or whenever it is, but it can also be unifying for the nation and the Commonwealth.” I think his coronation will look and feel very different .’

In a bid to bring his family closer to a modern audience, Kensington Palace released a behind-the-scenes video of the Prince and Princess of Wales at the King’s coronation last week.

A video posted to the Wales’ official YouTube account offers a rare glimpse into their family life during the packed Coronation weekend.

The film captures the jubilant atmosphere of the celebrations by showing William and Kate joining crowds of royal fans on the Mall outside Buckingham Palace the night before the coronation.
