Thousands of people gathered this Saturday in the American city of New York call for an end to United States (US) involvement in the conflict in Ukraine and that the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) be halted.

Numerous participants held banners calling for, among other things, peace for Ukraine, the dissolution of NATO, the end of the American policy of intervention and the removal of its unilateral restrictive measures against Cuba, Venezuela and other countries.

The march was also organized to commemorate the anti-war legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, as recalled the national mobilization he had organized against militarism shortly before his deathRacism and poverty, which he saw as the three evils of American society.

The Answer Coalition and The People’s Forum organized the mobilization, which was supported by Veterans for Peace, CodePink, Party for Socialism and Liberation, United National Anti-War Coalition, Haiti LibertĂ©, Rising Together, Peace in Ukraine Coalition, NYC-DSA Anti. War Working Group, Massachusetts Peace Action and other groups.

Ahead of the march, Answer Coalition national director Brian Becker made the statement Decades of US government policies have made conflict in Ukraine all but inevitable.

Assessing the causes of the confrontations between this country and Russia, which has deployed a military special operation there since February 2022 to protect the population of the Donbass, the activist said that “NATO expansion in Eastern Europe, US withdrawal, important arms control treaties and the Prospects of Ukraine becoming a base for NATO’s advanced weapon systems paved the way for this conflict.”
