“The city will absolutely burn this week,” said fan Johnni Arrington. He has tickets to all games in the BJCC for the NCAA tournament. He also observed most of the teams’ open practice sessions. He remembers the last time the tournament was played in Birmingham and looks forward to returning.

I’m just so proud of my city, so proud.

Crimson Tide fan Susan Goggins is proud to show off her team after watching them practice on the pitch. She bought official NCAA Alabama merchandise to prove it.

“They did a kind of exercise to see which side got the most points. (Jahvon Quinerly) and Brandon (Miller) traded threes back and forth. That’s what I want to see,” explained Susan Goggins.

For big basketball fans like Arrington, Legacy Arena will be his home base for the next few days, but all the fun doesn’t happen inside the arena. Fans who have come to see their team play check out everything Uptown has to offer.

“I just got back from top golf and checked out this UAB protection stadium,” said Iowa fan Jarrett West. West and his friends traveled over spring break to see the Hawkeyes play.

On Wednesday, Uptown was packed with fans announcing Thursday morning’s tournament. Mountain climbers, terps and tiger fans were out in full force.

“I think we have a chance, we’re going to beat the War Eagle, I mean we’re bringing the Tigers back to Auburn. Maybe we’ll even go further and beat Houston too, you never know,” said West

Although they all cheer on different teams, they have one thing in common: their love of the game.

“Only for the city of Birmingham. There are a lot of sports fans and for years we’ve had the opportunity to watch everyone else and it’s absolutely amazing to be at home, one day like today watching some teams practice and tomorrow games,” said Arrington. “Alone to see the athletes compete at the highest level and achieve something as a team is just amazing.”
