The rumors were true, Sony has just introduced a thinner model of the PlayStation 5, with a removable Blu-ray drive.

With each generation of consoles, Sony has become accustomed to offering a smaller version after a few years. Here is the new PlayStation 5, smaller, thinner and with an optional Blu-ray player.
A smaller PlayStation 5
The rumors were right, Sony’s huge console is entitled to a slimming treatment. This will reduce the volume of the new PlayStation 5 by 30% and reduce its weight by 18 to 24%. This works out to approximately 358 x 96 x 216mm compared to 390 x 104 x 260mm for the original model. Expect 3.2kg for the PS5 and 2.6kg for the Digital Edition, compared to 4.5 and 3.9kg for the launch versions respectively.
Better yet: The PS5 will be modular. Its sides are now divided into two parts. The upper, glossy part remains fixed, but the lower, matte part can be removed to integrate a Blu-ray player, available separately for 119.99 euros. This means that the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition can become a PlayStation 5 and vice versa.

Note that the foot to hold the console vertically is now optional and sells for 29.99 euros. Latest change: The front panel here shows two USB-C ports instead of one USB-C port and one USB-A port. Make room for modernity!
These new models will be available from November and will replace the current consoles on store shelves. For the price you have to pay 450 euros for the Digital Edition version and 550 euros for the PS5 with Blu-ray player.
