In fiscal year 2023 (between April 2023 and March 2024), Sony will launch wireless headphones specifically for the PlayStation 5 and a new Bluetooth headset for its home console. That’s what Insider Gaming tells us this week, suggesting these two peripherals are currently in development.

Regarding the earphones expected for the PS5, the latter would respond internally to the codename “Project Nomad” and benefit from an autonomy of almost five hours. This is not necessarily good news, since the autonomy of the WF-1000XM3 headphones, also distributed by Sony, is around 6 to 8 hours on battery power.

Towards a simultaneous launch of the PS5 with removable drive?

Of course, a USB-C charging box would be there to boost that endurance, which a priori could be improved. This box could then be recharged by connecting it to the PS5, for example… and this method would also be used for updates, we read.

As mentioned above, Sony also has a new wireless headset in the pipeline for its console: codenamed “Voyager”. This device is said to partially inherit the specs and positioning of the Inzone H7 headphones, but it’s unknown what its exact pricing positioning will be.

In any case, it’s interesting to note that the putative launch of these two accessories would more or less invade the same niche as the PlayStation 5 with a removable drive that has been mentioned by the rumor in recent months. According to Insider Gaming, the latter will be launched in September 2023

Finally, note that Sony won’t be the first to launch wireless headphones for gaming. Before him, for example, Razer practiced the exercise from X with its Hammerhead headphones, which are compatible with both PS5 and Xbox Series S.
