Laurens: Neymar’s season-ending injury ‘heartbreaking news’

Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar is out for the remainder of the season as the Brazil international has to undergo surgery to repair his ankle ligaments, which will keep him out for at least three months, the Ligue 1 club said on Monday with
Neymar, who has 13 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season, has not played since he was sent off in his team’s 4-3 win over Lille last month and missed PSG’s last two games.

“Neymar Jr. has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle over the past few years,” PSG said in a statement.
“Following his last sprain on February 20, the medical staff recommended… ligament surgery to avoid a great risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted confirmed this necessity.
“There will be a delay of three to four months before he returns to training.”
PSG said he will undergo the surgery in Doha, Qatar.
The club are leaders with eight points more than second-placed Marseille. They meet FC Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League on Wednesday, where they are 1-0 behind.
