INFO LE FIGARO – In a letter to Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, around thirty members of the majority say they want to ensure that the funds granted by France to the Palestinians are not misused.
The debate is dividing European democracies. So much so that the issue has still not been resolved in Brussels. Should we question official development assistance to the Palestinians? This week the horrific Hamas terrorist attack in Israel plunged the Commission into something of a cacophony, which ended with the announcement of an “urgent review” of European Union (EU) aid to Palestine. An arbitration procedure that provoked different reactions from the member states: Unlike some heads of state and government – especially in the East – Emmanuel Macron spoke out against the interruption of this financing. “We must not confuse the fight against terrorism with the most fundamental humanitarian right, the support of the civilian population,” pleaded the President of the Republic.
