SANTA CLARA – After three days off, the 49ers return to their practice facility on Monday for a light afternoon workout.
In the immediate aftermath of the 49ers’ 31-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday at Lumen Field, quarterback Brock Purdy wasn’t quite ready to turn things around and focus on the team’s Week 13 opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 49ers defeated the Seahawks on the road for the first time in franchise history in back-to-back seasons when Purdy delivered a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk midway through the fourth quarter to seal the win.
“We just won on Thanksgiving,” Purdy said. “We will enjoy this. We’ll need the next few days to recover, clear our heads and so on. When we get to the schedule, we’ll start next week.
“I’m enjoying it right now. Obviously it’s going to be a big deal down the road. We know that. Everyone knows that. We’ll take our time and enjoy it.”
After practice on Monday, the 49ers will have an off day on Tuesday before settling into their normal weekly routine. They train Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The team is scheduled to travel to Philadelphia on Friday afternoon.
Purdy escaped and spent some of his free time with his fiancée Jenna Brandt at a kindergarten in Half Moon Bay. According to their social media posts, they purchased a tree and Christmas accessories.
In the duel between the 49ers and the Eagles, the teams are at the top of the NFC playoffs. The Eagles (10-1) have the best record in the NFL, while the 49ers are currently No. 2 in the NFC with a record of 8-3.
It’s a game that’s been highly anticipated since the 49ers traveled to Philadelphia for the NFC Championship Game and had virtually no chance of competing after Purdy tore ligaments in his elbow in the first quarter.
The Eagles won 31-7 to advance to the Super Bowl, where they lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
When the 49ers faced Philadelphia in the playoffs last season, there may still have been some questions about Purdy’s ability to succeed at the highest level.
In his first full season as a starter, Purdy leads the NFL with a passer rating of 112.3. His average of 9.4 yards per pass attempt leads the NFL by a full yard over Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Houston Texans rookie CJ Stroud.
