Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the Orthodox Christmas mass at the Kremlin’s Cathedral of the Annunciation in Moscow. This was announced by the Russian authorities.
Moscow Patriarch Kirill instead celebrated the liturgy in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral, Ria Novosti reports. Last year, Tass says, Putin attended the Orthodox Christmas service at the Church of the Image of the Savior, located at his presidential residence in Novo-Ogaryovo outside Moscow. Belarusian opposition outlet Nexta relaunched images from Russian TV channel Rossiya 1 on Twitter this evening, showing Putin in a turtleneck and jacket alone in a room with the celebrant. Nexta emphasizes the loneliness of the president “from his bunker”. “The priest – the tweet jokes – is probably an FSB agent”.
