Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will meet for talks in Russia’s Amur region on Tuesday. State news agencies in Russia and Belarus report that the focus should be on the situation in Ukraine and Western sanctions. Meetings with workers at the train station and prizes for cosmonauts are also planned, he said.
Putin landed in the city of Blagoveshchensk, near the Chinese border, on Tuesday, Russian state news agency Ria Novosti reported. Lukashenko is already there too.
Lukashenko insists that Belarus must be involved in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Russia has proposed Belarus to its ally as guarantor of Ukraine’s protection.
