Putin in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, first war trip

(ANSA) — ROME, June 27 — Russian state television reported that Vladimir Putin will visit Tajikistan and Turkmenistan this week, the Russian president’s first known foreign trip since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Rossiya Channel 1 said Putin would visit the two small states of the former Soviet Union in Central Asia and then meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo for talks in Moscow. According to the Russian broadcaster, Putin will meet Tajik President Imomali Rahmon – a close Russian ally and longest-lived ruler of a former Soviet state – in Dushanbe, while in Ashgabat he will attend a summit of Caspian nations with the leaders of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan.

Russia’s Ria Novosti news agency added that Putin also plans to visit the Belarusian city of Grodno on June 30 and July 1 to attend a forum with President Alexander Lukashenko. (HAND).
