Ukraine said today that its forces shot dead the deputy commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, in another significant blow to the forces of Vladimir Putin.
Captain First Rank Andrey Paliy, 51, is the only senior naval officer allegedly killed in the war in Ukraine, although Kyiv claims to have killed five army generals.
Sergei Sukharev, Colonel of the 331st Guards Airborne Regiment from Kostroma, was killed on March 18, and Andrey Sukhovetsky, 47, was killed in a special operation by a sniper on March 3.
In addition, 47-year-old Major General Oleg Mityaev, commander of the 150th Army Motorized Rifle Division, died in battle in the besieged Mariupol area, 45-year-old Major General Vitaly Gerasimov was killed on March 7 near eastern Kharkov, and Colonel on March 11 in battle Andrey Kolesnikov, commander of the Guards Tank Kantemirovskaya Division, died.
51-year-old captain of the first rank Andrei Paliy (pictured) was allegedly shot dead by Ukraine as a result of another strike on the troops of Vladimir Putin.
Paliy is the only high-ranking naval officer who died in the war in Ukraine.
The 51-year-old was deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet of Russian tyrant and alleged war criminal Vladimir Putin.
It comes after Russia said it had struck a foreign fighter training facility, killing more than 100 special forces and non-Ukrainian mercenaries.
Paly’s death was apparently confirmed by his Russian friend Konstantin Tsarenko, secretary of the public council of the Sevastopol Nakhimov Naval School, although Moscow has not officially acknowledged this.
One report said that he was involved in attacks by Russian marines near Mariupol.
However, the exact circumstances of his alleged death are unknown.
Colonel Sergey Sukharev from the 331st Guards Airborne Regiment (Kostroma) died in Ukraine along with senior sergeant Sergey Lebedev, sergeant Alexander Limonov and corporal Yuri Degtyarev of the same regiment.
Two weeks ago, Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky, 47, deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District, was killed by a sniper on March 3.
Born in Kyiv, Paliy refused to take the Ukrainian military oath in 1993, instead serving in Russia’s Northern Fleet.
Previously, he served on the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Peter the Great.
He also served as Deputy Head of the Russian Naval Academy in Sevastopol, in annexed Crimea.
Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko announced the death of Parasi early this morning, without specifying the details.
Russia today again used hypersonic Kinzhal missiles against “military targets” in Ukraine, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said.
“From the airspace over Crimea, a Kinzhal strike was launched at the base of fuels and lubricants, from where fuel was supplied for Ukrainian armored vehicles,” the message says.
Oleg Mityaev, 47, left, major general of the Russian army – commander of the elite 150th motorized rifle division, reportedly killed in Ukraine, as well as major general Vitaly Petrovich Gerasimov, who was killed on March 7 near the eastern city of Kharkov (pictured right)
The commander of the Guards Tank Kantemirovskaya Division, Colonel Andrey Kolesnikov of the 29th Combined Arms Army, became the last major casualty of the war on March 11 after being killed in action.
High-precision aircraft missiles also hit a training center for “foreign mercenaries” near the village of Ovruch in the Zhytomyr region, the Russians said at the time.
The type of missile attack was not specified.
“More than 100 servicemen [Ukraine’s] special operations forces and foreign mercenaries were killed.”
