Putin Now Uses “Hero of Russia” in War – Ukraine

Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Dvornikov as supreme commander in the Ukraine war. He was already in command of Russian troops in Syria.

Vladimir Putin appointed a supreme commander over the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Alexander Dwornikov is now in charge of sending Russian troops. According to CNN, both a US official and a European official announced this. The takeover of command has not been officially confirmed by the Russian side.

Dvornikov joined the Red Army in 1979 and won the Hero Award of the Russian Federation in 2016 as the brutal colonel general of Russian troops in Syria. Since 2016, he has also served as the commander of the armed forces of the Southern Military District of Russia.

The new commander in chief must now deliver results to Putin. Former British ambassador to Russia Sir Roderic Lyne told Sky News on Saturday that Moscow had appointed a new general with “a pretty horrible record in Syria to try to gain at least some territory in Donetsk that Putin can present as a victory”.

As CNN reports, between September 2015 and June 2016, Dvornikov, 60, was the first commander of Russian military operations in Syria. The mission’s objective was to support Syrian President Assad’s government and military. Under his command in Syria, Russian planes bombed densely populated neighborhoods, causing heavy civilian casualties.

It is to be feared that Dvornikov will take similar steps in Ukraine. The vicious attack on the Kramatorsk railway station was probably already under his command. At least 52 people were killed in the rocket attack on the building where the civilians were hiding. The attack was all the more shocking because the Russian missile was labeled “For Children”.

Commenting on Dvornikov’s appointment, the European official told CNN: “It’s a sign that the Russians have realized that things are going extremely badly and they need to do something different.” According to CNN, military analysts are speculating that Russian generals intend to present Putin with some tangible advances on the battlefield before May 9. On the day, Russia traditionally organizes a parade in Moscow’s Red Square to commemorate the victory over Nazi Germany.

According to the official, the date is a “self-imposed deadline” that could tempt Russians to make more mistakes. But it could also lead to more atrocities committed by Russian forces, as happened in the Kiev suburbs of Bucha, Borodyanka and Dmytrivka. There were mass killings of civilians. After Russian troops withdrew, Ukrainian forces discovered mass graves of civilians in several of the villages.
