MOSCOW, 20 September (EFE).- Russia’s President Vladimir Putin today received the credentials of the new ambassadors of Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela and 21 other countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania in a ceremony since the start of the Russian campaign in Ukraine.
“Russia and Uruguay are bound by close ties of friendship. December marks 165 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” said the Russian President in an address to Uruguayan Ambassador Daniel Castillos Gómez.
Noting that Russia is committed to “further developing our economic, scientific-educational, cultural and humanitarian ties and other areas,” Putin recalled the Uruguayan city of San Javier, inhabited by Russian descendants.
“We appreciate that people with Russian roots living there and elsewhere have the opportunity to preserve their ethnocultural authenticity, their cultural traditions and to speak their mother tongue,” he added.
In his words of welcome to Colombian ambassador Héctor Isidro Arenas Neira, Putin described the Andean country as “a promising partner for Russia in Latin America, with whom we are interested in friendly relations.”
“We share the recent words of the new President (Gustavo) Petro about the constructive approach to intensifying ties in the areas of trade, energy, infrastructure, science and technology, education and culture,” he said.
Putin also expressed Russia’s willingness to consistently continue to support the peace process in the Caribbean country.
“Venezuela is our strategic partner and reliable ally in Latin America and on a global level,” said the Russian President at the reception of the Venezuelan ambassador, Jesús Rafael Salazar Velázquez.
Noting that the Kremlin is engaged in an “intensive dialogue” with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the Russian President stressed that “Russia’s and Venezuela’s positions on the most important issues on the international agenda are close or completely coincident”. .
“We will continue to expand bilateral cooperation in all directions, especially in the areas of energy, industry, infrastructure, transport and pharmaceuticals. We support Venezuela’s efforts to further stabilize the internal situation and condemn the illegal sanctions imposed on the country,” he said.
Among the diplomats who presented their credentials to the Kremlin today, the European Union was represented only by Portuguese Ambassador María Magdalena Lobo Carvalho, an opportunity the Russian President took to regret the disruption in political and economic dialogue and cooperation.
“We are convinced that this situation will eventually be resolved,” he said.
Putin urged the ambassadors to “dynamically strengthen” ties between their respective countries and Russia in the interests of international stability and security.
“I hope that working in Russia will be interesting for you from a professional point of view and will allow you to better understand our country and our history and culture,” he concluded EFE
