Putin removed from “all posts” in the International Judo Federation

On Sunday, the International Judo Federation (IJF) punished Vladimir Putin and another Russian billionaire for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Putin and Arkady Rotenberg were stripped of their honorary titles and removed from all their positions in the organization. Rotenberg was a co-founder of SMP Bank and a co-owner of SGM, the largest gas pipeline construction company in Russia.

“The International Judo Federation announces that Mr. Vladimir Putin and Mr. Arkady Rotenberg have been removed from all positions held by the International Judo Federation,” the organization said in a statement.

The IJF removed Putin from the position of honorary president of the organization last month.

“In light of the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, the International Judo Federation announces the suspension of Mr. Vladimir Putin’s status as Honorary President and Ambassador of the International Judo Federation,” the IJF said in a February 27 statement.

Putin’s reputation in the sports world has been damaged by his decision to invade Ukraine.

Last week, World Taekwondo announced that it was stripping Putin of his black belt. The organization said the attacks were contrary to the organization’s motto, “Peace is more precious than triumph.”

“World Taekwondo strongly condemns the brutal attacks on innocent lives in Ukraine, which are contrary to the vision of world taekwondo “Peace is more precious than triumph” and the values ​​of respect and tolerance of world taekwondo,” the sport’s governing body said in a statement.

“In this regard, the World Taekwondo has decided to withdraw the honorary 9th dan black belt awarded to Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013.”
