Russia’s armed forces have launched their offensive in eastern Ukraine. He wants to suppress Ukrainian troops and protect the Crimean corridor to Russia.
The Russian Defense Ministry released the first jubilant reports on Tuesday: “High-precision missiles” hit 13 Ukrainian targets in parts of the Donbass of eastern Ukraine, including the strategically important city of Sloviansk. Russia’s air force carried out dozens of attacks on Tuesday night. During the day, heavy detonations could be heard in many places along the Donbass front. The Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine is in full swing. Russian President Vladimir Putin is now trying with all his might to make a decision here.

Originally, the Kremlin chief apparently hoped to take the Ukrainian capital of Kiev with a quick push. That would have been a great symbolic victory. And Putin could then have installed a person dedicated to him in the Kiev presidency. But this success was denied him. That’s why Putin is now trying to create a military situation that he can sell as at least a partial victory.
