The speech comes at a highly symbolic moment, almost a year since Putin announced Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state television: “At such a crucial and very complicated moment of our development, our life, everyone is waiting for a message hoping to hear an assessment of what is happening, an assessment of the military special operation”.
