Q1: Lance Stroll and Aston Martin can hope for better

Quebec’s Lance Stroll did well in the first two free practice sessions of the British Formula 1 Grand Prix, finishing in the top 10 in both on Friday at the Silverstone circuit.

The Aston Martin driver set a fast lap of 1:29.471 in the opening practice session to finish ninth. Later in the day he clocked a 1:28.866, a good margin for sixth place. Stroll will be looking to finish in the top 10 at an event for the sixth time in 2023.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull), author of seven wins this season, dominated the day’s two tests with times of 1’28.600 in the morning and 1’28.078 in the afternoon. The other Aston Martin driver, the experienced Fernando Alonso, set the fast fourth lap in the first session, 0.668s slower than the leader, and was tenth in the next (1:29.134).

The final practice and qualifying will take place on Saturday, the race is scheduled for Sunday.
