QB Matt Coral does not regret playing Ole Miss bowl despite an ankle injury

INDIANAPOLIS – Ole Miss Quarterback Matt Coral, speaking Wednesday at the NFL Scout Factory, said she “does not regret” her performance at the Sugar Bowl in January and is on track to be at full speed for her professional day at 24 March campus.

Coral will not throw against the plant – the quarterbacks will have training on the field on Thursday – because he is still recovering from an injury to his right ankle, which he received in the first quarter of the loss of Ole Miss from Baylor. Coral said Wednesday that the injury was “high ankle sprain, no fractures, no tears”.

Several teams asked Coral in official interviews at the plant if he regretted playing in the cup game and did not give up, he said.

“They asked me if I was sorry, and I said, ‘Absolutely not,'” Coral said. “I never thought of giving up … I never thought about it. I would play independently.”

Coral said his recovery from the injury, which was originally planned for six to eight weeks, was going well enough that he had recently begun to make full concessions in his training and run in his condition.

“About two weeks ago, I started throwing and running,” Coral said. “… I’m throwing at 100% right now. I just started taking a comeback about two and a half weeks ago. Before that, I was just throwing from places without taking any returns.”

Coral has surpassed 3,000 yards with passes in each of his last two seasons at Ole Miss and has combined 49 touchdowners. He threw 3,349 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2021 and rushed for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns.

ESPN’s junior coral Mel Cyprus is listed as the No. 3 quarterback in the draft behind Kenny Pickett of Pete and Malik Willis of Liberty. ESPN’s Todd McShay has Coral as the No. 27 overall as well as quarterback number 3.

“I can’t introduce myself physically [at the combine]but I can definitely show the teams what I know mentally, “said Coral.
