The future of Aaron Rodgers is one of the biggest topics in the NFL since the loss of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC division round. And even after six weeks, the two-time ruling MVP in the league still doesn’t seem to be leaning in one way or another. In fact, he is really torn where he wants to play in 2022, According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
According to Rapoport, there is a great deal of positivity in Green Bay, as it relates to the return of Rodgers for the 2022 season. Packers. The idea was that Rodgers and the team would decide on the next season before March 16, the official launch of the free agency.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst told the NFL Scouting Combine this week that he had not heard from any team about possible trade offers for the Rodgers. The Broncos were a team that was mentioned as a possible landing place for the Rodgers, especially after the team hired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their new head coach. However, Hackett said this week that he stays away from any talk about Rodgers.
According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, Green Bay brass has dropped the red carpet when it comes to doing everything possible to lure Rodgers back. Packers and Rodgers have reportedly discussed a new, short-term contract that will make him the highest paid player in the NFL. Rodgers himself said he had positive conversations with the Packers this offseason. The Packers will have to exchange Rodgers if he wants to play elsewhere in 2022, as Rodgers still have two years from his current contract.

Rodgers has played some of the best football of his career since the Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round of the NFL 2020 draft. Since then, Rodgers has won two league MVP awards, raising his total to four. In 2020, Rodgers topped the NFL with 48 touchdown passes, while completing 70.7% of his passes in the league. In 16 games last season, Rodgers threw 37 touchdowns against just four interceptions as he helped Green Bay sew No. 1 for the second year in a row.
However, the Packers failed in the last playoffs. Green Bay lost at home to the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship 2020 match, a year after falling to San Francisco one game less than the Super Bowl. The Packers were upset by the visiting 49ers in the 2021 playoff division round as the drought at the Green Bay Super Bowl reached 11 years. Green Bay’s last Super Bowl victory came at the end of the 2010 season, when Rodgers threw three touchdown passes in the Packers’ 31-25 victory over the Steelers in the XLV Super Bowl.
Green Bay reduces the space for the salary ceiling on the days leading up to the free agency. The Packers would ideally like to have both Rodgers and All-Pro receiver Davante Adams back in the fold for the 2022 season. The duo have been the best in the NFL for the past few years, as Adams has caught 29 touchdowns in the last two years.
