That gave the Estrie team a 2-0 lead in this Quebec Major Junior Hockey League quarterfinal series.
Only in the third period did the chain of voltigeurs fall apart. Visibly unhappy with the one goal gap that separated the Phoenix from their rivals, Roy needed just 47 seconds in the third period to make it 3-1.
The 2021 fifth-round pick did it again a few minutes later on the power play, then made himself Jacob Melanson’s accomplice.
He capped his hat trick by surprising Riley Mercer with a sharp shot in the faceoff.
He also had assists from Marc-André Gaudet and Milo Roelens. That brings his tally to nine goals and 19 points in seven short playoff games this year.
Cole Huckins and Christophe Rondeau completed the goal on the winning side while Manix Landry answered.
Kidney and the Olympiques do not twitch
Also in Gatineau, the Olympiques came close to a semi-final appearance by beating the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 5 to 0.
They also won the first leg 5-0.
The Olympiques completely dominated their rivals, deflecting 59 shots on goal against just 12.
Alexis Gendron distinguished himself with his 11th and 12th goals of the spring tournament. In his first success, CH jewel Riley Kidney got his 11th assist and 13th point in the playoffs.
