While saying on Friday he was disappointed the QMJHL didn’t take action against Shawinigan Cataractes head coach Daniel Renaud, Patrick Roy was nonetheless satisfied there had been an investigation.

The Remparts pilot had filed a formal complaint with the league to investigate the behavior of Renaud, who he accused of encouraging his players to injure certain members of the ‘Red Devils’ during the match between the two teams.
A text message from a Cataractes player to one of his friends from Remparts, copied to our colleague Kevin Dubé, also seemed to confirm these intentions.
“The message has arrived”
Yesterday, the Circle confirmed by email that Renaud had not been awarded a sanction following analysis by player safety director Éric Chouinard.
“Somewhere the league went ahead to see if there was any reason for a suspension, Patrick Roy pointed out. Today it’s about protecting the players of the league, and not just those of the Remparts, from such situations. The message has arrived. »
Renaud was on duty yesterday as his team took on the Voltigeurs in Drummondville.
In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, Cataractes general manager Martin Mondou confirmed that his organization had had “good talks with the league”.
“We also shared with the league what Patrick said to Daniel during the game,” Mondou commented. On our side, it’s clear that we want to be more in control of our emotions. There were unpunished gestures [dans le match de mercredi], I can understand some frustration, but we still need to manage our reactions better. »
The Coach’s Mission
He pointed out to Patrick Roy on Friday that “at the end of the day, when the league has made its decision, Dan Renaud will know what he did”.
“My aim is for the players in our league to be able to play safely,” he added. That they can be mentored on and off the ice to have the best possible experience at junior level, and not just with the Remparts. »
“It’s kind of a mission I’ve given myself. »
