The fake building inspector scheme appears to have made a comeback in the Capitale-Nationale after it was talked about in the Montreal region in recent weeks, authorities warn.
This type of scam was seen in the region as early as late 2021 before fading away. However, this situation was recently reported by Le Journal in the Montreal region, specifically by Groupe Réno Assistance Québec.
The scheme is that a person appears at the door as a building inspector and insists on walking around the house. After his visit, he found several “urgent deficiencies” and offered to repair them at a very high price.
