“I would like to apologize for the impact that many have experienced over the past weekend,” said Vice President of the Executive Committee and responsible for snow removal, Pierre-Luc Lachance, at the beginning of a press conference convened on Friday in the middle of the storm.

The past weekend’s events, which were very numerous in the city center, had been disrupted by the snowy streets, which had infuriated many.

The city heard the message from the citizens, said Pierre-Luc Lachance. It’s no longer about not clearing snow on Fridays and Saturdays and planning operations city-wide instead of sector-by-sector. The city has noted that “citizens want to see change and more adaptability in the city of Quebec.”

Marie-Pierre Raymond, who is responsible for maintaining the lanes, explained that snow clearing would take place on Friday evening and then continue on Sunday. Key areas are downtown and around the Videotron Center, where the finals of the Pee-Wee Tournament will take place.

“We’re going to go wherever there are streetlights in densely populated areas on Friday,” Raymond said. “From Sunday evening we will resume our operations.”

Even though several coasts were closed in the road network on Friday, it wasn’t because the city escaped them, Mr Lachance pounded. We have proceeded with the closure to ensure its safety, the elect official and Mrs Raymond mentioned. “By no means have we escaped the shores, we have made a safe treatment of our network,” stressed Mr. Lachance.

The leader of the official opposition, Claude Villeneuve, believes the opposite. He also concludes from recent events that Mr Lachance has shown “helplessly” that he does not understand snow removal policy and that he should be relieved of his duties as files manager.

“In this file, too, the mayor and the members of his team act as spectators.”

He continues to be pleased about the announced changes in the procedure. After the Marchand administration spent the week saying it was “handcuffed” by the snow removal policy, “it looks like someone has found the key,” he joked.
