Quebec fires are slowing thanks to weather –

The weather and international aid are helping to slow the fires in the province, but no new fires have broken out in the past 24 hours.

As of Friday evening, the Society for the Protection of Forests from Fires (SOPFEU) reported 67 active fires in the intensive zone, including 9 out of control and 26 fires classified as priority.

“The weather conditions of the last few days have significantly reduced the intensity of the forest fires in several affected areas. “The situation now allows several communities to proceed with the reintegration of their populations,” we can read on the Quebec government website.

Among the fires that are still out of control, that of Lebel-sur-Quévillon is one of the worst, where more than 481,000 hectares have already gone up in smoke.

In addition, SOPFEU and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests partially lifted the ban on open fires in or near the forest in part of the province on Thursday morning.

The ban therefore now affects certain sectors of Nord-du-Québec, Côte-Nord, Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Mauricie and Outaouais.

“Everyone working together is essential to ensure that the ban on open fires in the forest is observed. “The purpose of this measure is to limit the risk of forest fires,” says SOPFEU’s website.
