Quebec launches construction training offensive! – Government of Quebec

QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 30, 2023 /CNW/ – The Government of Quebec is launching a construction training initiative with the aim of training between 4,000 and 5,000 additional people to work in high-demand jobs on construction sites, namely carpentry. Carpenter, excavator operator, heavy equipment operator, sheet metal smith, refrigeration technician, electrician and pipe fitter.

This was announced today by the Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, the Minister of Labor and Minister responsible for the Côte-Nord Region, Kateri Champagne Jourdain, the Minister of Education and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches Region, Bernard Drainville, and the Minister of Labor and Minister responsible for the Mauricie region, the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and the Nord-du-Québec region, Jean Boulet.

Four new short courses

This resulted in short-term training courses (final certificates) lasting four to six months to become carpenters, excavator operators, heavy machinery operators, plumbers and refrigeration technicians. An additional expense for courses leading to the DEP

Individuals who enroll in a program leading to a Vocational Education Diploma (DEP) to become carpenters, excavator operators, heavy equipment workers, sheet metal workers or refrigeration technicians by December 15, 2023 could receive a $9,000 scholarship under certain conditions receive up to $15,000 upon completion. The same applies to those who will undergo the same training in November and December 2023.

In addition, from January onwards, the admission capacity of the DEP courses in electricity and plumbing and heating, two training courses for which there are currently waiting lists, will also be increased.
