The Quebec Summer Festival has no plans to present a tribute to the late Cowboys Fringants singer Karl Tremblay in 2024.
In the eyes of FEQ’s chief programmer, Louis Bellavance, the group’s memorable concert for 90,000 people on the Plains of Abraham last summer has already accomplished that mission.
“We consciously paid tribute to the Cowboys and Karl last year. In my planning was the return of the Cowboys Fringants to the FEQ in 2025. We have brought forward this meeting because of the events we are experiencing,” explained Mr. Bellavance during an interview with Le Journal.
We remember that the Cowboys Fringants concert was supposed to take place on July 13th, but was canceled due to a severe storm.
Knowing that Karl Tremblay was seriously ill and that this would certainly be his last chance to play on the Plains during his lifetime, FEQ leaders decided to extend the event for one day, Monday, July 17, to enable the holding of The Concert.
“We made the decisions based on the events we are experiencing,” affirmed Louis Bellavance.
“I think whatever else we did, I don’t think it would be interesting. I have no plans to put on a show. I want what we experienced last year to remain what remains. After that, maybe there will be other references as time goes on, but putting on a tribute show… the other Cowboys are still there, it’s still fresh, all three have projects, I don’t know…”
