Quebecer Laurent Pitre stars in horror film “The Sacrifice Game”

Fifteen years after landing his first acting contract at the haunted house La Ronde, Laurent Pitre is finally returning to horror. The Quebecer plays the lead role in the American-Canadian film The victim gamelaunched for the holiday season on the Shudder platform.

“It was in La Ronde that I began to appreciate horror. “I didn’t listen to it before, I was too scared,” says Laurent Pitre, laughing.

“But after discovering the other side of the story, I realized that fear is such a profound emotion that it certainly affects people. It allows us to tell complex and dramatic stories in a completely different way,” continues the actor, who we saw in “District 31” and “The Blue House.”

In The Sacrifice Game he takes on the role of Doug, a member of a criminal gang who will make life difficult for two young students during the holidays on their campus. Your New Year's Eve will therefore be anything but peaceful, marked by murders and satanic rituals from which no one will emerge unscathed.

More than just a Christmas film

This synopsis certainly suggests a film like “Black Christmas” or “Silent Night,” horror classics whose plot is set during the Christmas season. But even if the family ties are flattering, Laurent Pitre brings nuance.

“If people decide to make it a classic that they watch every Christmas, that’s great. But I think The Sacrifice Game goes beyond that; It is a film that can be seen at any time of the year. And also, we shot the film in the spring when it was very, very hot in Montreal,” says the actor with a touch of humor.

In fact, director Jenn Wexler set up her film set in the metropolis in May 2022. The film – starring Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Gus Kenworthy (American Horror Story) and Olivia Scott Welch (Fear Street) – also had its world premiere last summer in Montreal as part of the Fantasia festival.

“The hall was full at the premiere, it was a very powerful experience. Being able to see the film on the big screen, surrounded by people reacting, laughing and being scared… it was a great moment. I really believe that The Sacrifice Game will represent an important turning point in my career,” says Laurent Pitre.

Projects in front of and behind the camera

In addition to “The Sacrifice Game”, we will soon be able to see the face of Laurent Pitre in several television projects expected in the coming months; The Quebec native recently landed episodic roles in series such as “Fargo,” “Hudson & Rex” and “Something Undone.”

In addition, the actor would like to present his first works as a director shortly; four short films that have already been shot are currently being edited.
