Hundreds of Air Transat passengers have been stranded in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic since Thursday, complaining of being on their own.
Flight TS399 was scheduled to depart from Punta Cana for Montreal on May 26 but failed to take off due to a mechanical failure.
Passengers had to wait two hours before being told the flight was finally canceled and they would be diverted to their hotel.
“We were offered a $15 voucher as an apology to eat all day while we waited at the airport with no help, no news, no information, no contact. It was really awful,” said Vanessa Lemieux, a passenger stranded in the Dominican Republic.
An Air Transat spokesman confirmed to TVA Nouvelles that a new plane has been dispatched to Punta Cana and passengers should be back in Montreal by Saturday night.
Passengers would have been given three $15 vouchers for airport deliveries, according to Air Transat spokesman Bernard Côté, and communications would have been sent every 30 minutes.
Twice a week
This is the second time in a week that passengers have been stranded abroad due to the cancellation of an Air Transat flight due to mechanical problems.
On May 21, 220 passengers were stranded for 24 hours in Lisbon, Portugal, due to a safety issue on the plane that was supposed to be transporting them.
