The speech follows internal turmoil in the upper echelons of Jordan’s royal family, where claims of security breaches have forced King Abdullah to address the nation and reassure him that the country’s security is his top priority.

Reporting from the Middle East explains that King Abdullah II addressed the nation on November 9 following allegations against his half-brother.

The king wanted to present a united front amid the dispute following the arrest of 16 people, including members of the royal family.

The king’s brother, Prince Hamzah, who was crown prince, was not arrested but the military urged him to “stop movements and activities deployed to target Jordan’s security and stability”.

News site The National News reported that the Jordanian monarch said in a speech to the nation last week: “My first responsibility is to serve Jordan and protect its people, its constitution and its laws.”

Since the allegations came to light, Queen Rania of Jordan has been spotted visiting the Vatican, where she oozed glam alongside her husband King Abdullah in Vatican City.

The visit came a day after the King’s heartfelt national address.

The glamorous queen, 52, looked respectful in the black dress with a white bow tied around her waist for an audience with Pope Francis with her husband at the Apostolic Palace.

The mother-of-four also wore a sheer white headscarf draped over her hair and around her shoulders.
