Rabbit Invaded Neighborhood 7 South Florida

They’re “lionhead rabbits” or, as we would say in Spanish, “lionhead rabbits” because they have a conspicuously long mane on their heads and are practically taking over the Jenada Islaes neighborhood of Wilton Manors in Broward County.

A breeder is known to have released some of these small animals when he moved out of the area about two years ago and propagated them.

It is not known exactly how many rabbits have made this neighborhood their home. And there is a group trying to save them instead of eradicating them.

Funds are being raised to help relocate these bunnies, who not everyone in the community seems to welcome as they dig holes in backyards.

A neighbor moved a few years ago and left her rabbits on the street when she moved. They were neither spayed nor neutered and began to breed. And now there are probably 50 or more rabbits in the neighborhood.

“First thing I get up in the morning, plug up the holes and get them out of the backyard too. I like them, but I wish they would go somewhere else,” says a local resident.
