“President, if you, as a rabbi, care about the Jewish people, you must call for a ceasefire immediately.” said the woman, who identified herself to the press as Jessica Rosenberg, according to the New York Times.
Some people present at the scene asked the woman to leave the room while others booed her.
Biden responded, saying there should be a “pause” in the conflict to remove hostages from Gaza who were kidnapped by Hamas. However, the politician did not address the possibility of a ceasefire.
“I understand the emotion,” Biden continued, according to television station KSTP. “This is complicated for the Israelis. It’s also complicated for the Muslim world, and I support a twostate solution. (…) The truth is that Hamas is a terrorist organization. A total terrorist organization.” The US President had previously defended two independent states for Israel and Palestine.
The rabbi was removed from the event by security shouting “ceasefire now.”
