KIEV, April 2 (RHC) – Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy reported this Saturday that he had submitted proposals for security guarantee documents to several countries, the local press noted.

“We need security guarantees from the most important states,” said the President in an interview for the US broadcaster Fox News, which was broadcast this Friday evening.

He stressed that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member countries or those that are not part of this military bloc could be on that list.

“We want countries that openly want to join the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Turkey,” said Zelenskyy.

In that sense, he acknowledged that Kyiv already has the support of nations that have expressed their willingness to become guarantors and others with whom the country has contacted and exchanged some of the first draft documents on security guarantees.

Noting that the latter includes Israel and Ireland, he urged China to join them.

According to the Ukrainian head of state, Moscow should also take part because it is an agreement between Ukraine and Russia. He pointed out that a possible document should also impose obligations on Russia, since it is a party to the conflict.

Member of the Kiev delegation to the Russian-Ukrainian talks Alexander Chaly said in recent days that Ukraine is ready to fix its neutral status and freedom from nuclear weapons if it is given security guarantees.

The guarantors may include, as Kyiv seeks, permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (including Russia), as well as Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy, Poland and Turkey.

Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that Moscow agrees that security guarantees should be provided not only to Russia, but also to Ukraine and all European countries.

Russia began a military operation in Ukraine on February 24 after authorities in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics requested help to repel rising aggression and intense bombing in Kiev.

Previously, Moscow had recognized the independence and sovereignty of both territories and signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with their leaders, which included the establishment of diplomatic relations and military assistance.

In his informational speech on the start of the operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the goal is to protect the people of Donbass from the abuses and genocide in Kyiv over the past eight years, in addition to “demilitarization” and ” Denazification”.
