The Apple+ comedy Trying is back for a fourth season, with stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith in first-look snaps.
The new season is the first series since the actors' real-life romance was confirmed. Rafe and Esther made their romance public in November 2022 after it was revealed he had split from his wife of 12 years, Hollyoaks star Elize du Toit.
In the upcoming series Trying, which first aired in 2020, the couple's lives are fast forwarded six years.
Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) are experienced adopters who have built a beautiful little nuclear family enriched by an extraordinary support network.
But when their teenage daughter, Princess (Rayner), longs for a connection with her birth mother, Nikki and Jason face the ultimate test of their parenting skills.

In the upcoming series Trying, which first aired in 2020, the couple's lives have accelerated by six years and are now parents to teenagers (Rafe pictured with Mickey McAnulty as Tyler).
In addition to Rafe and Esther, the cast also includes Sian Brooke as Karen, BAFTA award winner Darren Boyd as Scott, Scarlett Rayner as Princess and Cooper Turner as Tyler.
Rafe, 40, and Esther, 37, made their off-screen romance public in November 2022 when they walked hand in hand.
The actor, who is the son of Timothy Spall, married former Hollyoaks actress Elize in 2010, but the couple split in 2021 after growing apart, according to The Sun.
In July 2022, Rafe told Filmhounds about his relationship with Esther: “I can hang out with Esther all day.” We get along really well. She's my favorite person I've ever played with.'
In another interview, he told Nerds That Geek, “People often comment on the chemistry that we have.”
“And I'm really happy that people are enjoying it, but…they're not going to enjoy it as much as we do.”
Rafe married Elize before moving to the Cotswolds with her in 2019. They have children Lena (12), Rex (11) and another seven-year-old son.
In an interview in 2022, Rafe said he regretted not spending more time with his children, telling i newspaper: “Unfortunately, I don't have any other skills that I could trade for cash.”

“Trying” returns to AppleTV+ with the first two episodes on Wednesday, May 22nd, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through July 3rd.
The first three seasons of Trying are now streaming on Apple TV+.
