Rage Against the Machine has confirmed that they will be canceling their 2023 North American tour due to Zack de la Rocha’s leg injury. The news comes after the band had to cancel their shows in Europe following Rocha’s injury during a show in July, the second appearance of their reunion tour.
“It’s been almost three months since Chicago and I’m still looking at my leg in disbelief,” Rocha said in a statement posted to Instagram. “Two years of waiting during the pandemic, hoping that we would have another chance to be a band and continue the work we started some odd 30 years ago. Rehearse, train, reconcile, get back in shape. Then a show and a half in and mine
tendon tears. Felt like a sick joke the universe was playing on me. As I write this, I am reminding myself that these are just bad circumstances. I just got through a moment.”

Rocha further explained, “Unfortunately, it’s a moment that requires a lot of work and healing. I have a severe tear in my left Achilles tendon and only 8% of my tendon was intact. And even that part was badly compromised. It’s not just about being able to perform again, it extends to basic functionality for the future. As such, I have made the painful and difficult decision to cancel the remaining shows on our 2023 North American leg.”
“I hate canceling shows. I hate disappointing our fans. They’ve all been so patiently waiting to see us and it never escaped my notice. I never take that for granted. For you I have the ultimate gratitude and respect,” he added.
Rocha also thanked his bandmates as well as everyone involved in creating the tour. Fans of the band who had tickets for the tour will be “automatically refunded to the original payment method used at the time of purchase” if purchased through Ticketmaster or AXS. Concertgoers who bought tickets with cash are asked to contact the box office directly.
