The Las Vegas Raiders are releasing defensive end Chandler Jones, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.
Jones was arrested Friday in Las Vegas after a tumultuous week that included several social media posts. He was arrested for allegedly violating a temporary domestic violence protective order.
The Raiders said in a statement Friday that they are “confident that Chandler Jones is receiving the care he needs. He, his family and everyone involved are in our thoughts.”
Jones, 33, has been away from the Raiders since Labor Day weekend, when he made a series of social media posts aimed at the team, owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels. The Raiders placed Jones on the non-football injury/illness list on September 20.

Jones posted on social media Monday night that he was taken to a hospital by the Las Vegas Fire Department last week “against my will” and later transferred to a behavioral health facility. He also posted numerous posts on social media on Thursday, including several live videos in which he could be seen sitting outside his home talking about a variety of topics.
Jones was in the second season of a three-year, $51 million contract he signed last year. His release will require the Raiders to pay approximately $12 million in dead money against the salary cap in both 2023 and 2024, as the team restructured Jones’ contract in March to create additional salary cap space.
It is unclear whether the Raiders will seek to recoup the money previously paid to Jones, which would be eligible due to his inclusion on the NFI list.
Jones posted bond Friday and is due back in court Dec. 4, according to Clark County court records.
