Raise Rejected: A Nanny Tries to Poison Her Employers

A 40-year-old nanny from Hauts-de-Seine, France, was handcuffed last week for allegedly trying to poison her employers with cleaning products in their wine bottles.

“The analyzes are still in progress. So far we know that there are several bottles of wine and at least one bottle of grape juice. It was […] inedible. You just had to dip your lips into it to understand that something was wrong,” a source familiar with the matter told Le Parisien on Thursday, according to France Live.

In late January, a French couple began to have doubts about their nanny, who had been hired since last September to look after their three-, five- and seven-year-old children, and noticed that their bottle of freshly uncorked wine tasted unnatural and disgusting.

However, shortly before the incident, the couple had refused a raise to the employee who wanted to teach both parents “a lesson, like a child who pours salt into a bowl in revenge,” said her lawyer, Me Emma Lesigne it in French media.

When she was arrested last Monday for attempted poisoning, the woman admitted adding a highly concentrated all-purpose cleaner to several bottles, but stated that her action was not aimed at children.

“It wasn't Destop or a strong detergent either, she knew the product wasn't dangerous […] There was no intent to kill or any desire to undermine the integrity of the couple,” the lawyer continued.

However, the petty revenge could land the forty-year-old in serious trouble, while at the same time highlighting her illegal presence on French territory. According to France Live, the woman therefore faces an accusation of “using a false administrative document” and an obligation to leave the territory.
