Ramparts: Gain signs Gweon and Miller

Led by the brilliance of their fourth line and a spectacular save from Quentin Miller in the third period, the Remparts ended their weekend with a 5-2 win over Rimouski Océanic at the Videotron Center last night.

We often talk about the Remparts’ big guns, but it was the trio of Andrew Gweon, Elliot Lavoie and Davis Cooper who set the tone for yesterday’s game, scoring the opening two goals to put the locals 2-0 in lead after the first 20 minutes of play.

Cooper opened the opening goal with his 13th of the season, then Lavoie scored his second of the season while Gweon was instrumental in both goals. He was also named the game’s first star.

“I’m not used to it! It’s a good feeling and I’m just happy to have contributed to the team’s success,” he said after the game.

For Roy, holding his fourth line was one of the highlights of his team’s win.

“These are people who are on the job, who work hard. They are warriors, game after game. Today they were exceptional, they played well and complemented each other well,” he said, adding a little later that everyone accepted their role.

“We have really good chemistry. […] We’ll keep doing little experiments, but getting everyone to play their part is probably the biggest challenge for a team like ours that wins game after game. »

Imperial in goal

The other highlight came in the third period. While the Remparts ran out of a four-minute penalty on Nathan Gaucher, Quentin Miller made an excellent close-range save to prevent the Océanic from leveling.

Justin Robidas then grabbed the rebound to make it two-for-one with Pier-Olivier Roy before handing it to make it 4-2 in Quebec.

“Their fourth goal is a very good save from Miller and then it’s two against one. We score, it’s 3 to 3. Sometimes it just takes a thread. I think we’re making progress in what we’re doing and we made life difficult for Quebec City twice tonight,” concluded Océanic head coach Serge Beausoleil.

key stop

In the end, Miller finished with 17 saves.

“Earlier this year we had a threesome and he forced us into it. Now he reaps. In the first 40 minutes of the game, I found he was generous with the rebounds. Third, he pulled out the big saves. His save from third was the key to scoring. »

We won’t summarize all the speeches for you, but Richard Martel’s was particularly noteworthy. :

“People often ask me if I miss the coaching and yes I do miss the coaching. It happens to me every now and then. But what I miss the most is the coaching against you because you exude the intensity and then want to win every night and that got me and that motivated me. This feeling, I can’t find it anymore. »

QUENTIN MILLER persevered

Quentin Miller played for the third straight game as the team’s No. 1 goalie William Rousseau is still battling the flu. In those three starts, the 17-year-old keeper had three wins, 2.00 goals against average and a .906 percent save.

With two more goals yesterday, Théo Rochette has ten points in his last four games, including eight goals. He now has 28 goals this season and is just five shy of his career mark of 33 set last season.

“The last chances I had almost all went to the bottom. The puck spins for me and we hope it lasts as long as possible to help the team. »
