Ramparts: The Mooseheads are sending a message

The Halifax Mooseheads sent a message this afternoon: They’re not second in the QMJHL standings just because they play in the Maritimes, where they mostly face Reconstruction teams.

Despite a three-goal push by Remparts in the third period, Sylvain Favreau’s men left Quebec in a 4-3 win.

They had established a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes, but in a similar scenario to Thursday’s win against Victoriaville Tigres, the Remparts tried in vain in the third.

The Mooseheads therefore left Quebec today with four points out of six on a difficult journey that saw them beat the Victoriaville Tigres on Friday, lost to the Sherbrooke Phoenix the next day and defeated the Remparts today.

Another way to get the message across that they are serious contenders for the title.

“I thought we sent a message last month, then we started Favreau for the first time before Christmas, a little upset that his team continues to be underrated. It seems we have tests and every time we play in Quebec it’s another test.

“Here we test it. We have wins and we play well against these teams. We feel good, we try not to put too much emphasis on it. »

BAD LUCK

For his part, Patrick Roy showed no downcast face.

“I’m trying to be careful because we lost 4-0 and honestly I thought we were just unlucky. We hadn’t done anything catastrophic and we ended up trailing 4-0, which shook us a bit. I liked it though the character the lads showed in the third period and we were close to coming back,” he said, throwing flowers at Moosehead goalkeeper Mathis Rousseau, which was particularly outstanding in the third period.

“It started to walk around a lot! We couldn’t wait for it to be over and we were able to finish the job,” said the 18-year-old goalkeeper.

The comeback began when Zachary Bolduc parried a shot from Nicolas Savoie behind Rousseau before scoring another just minutes later to break the 40-goal mark for the second straight season. Jérémy Langlois then sowed hysteria among the 15,060 spectators gathered at the Videotron center, but the Remparts failed to beat Rousseau for a fourth time.

“We’re confident, we believe in ourselves and we know what we can do and we showed that in the third period,” Bolduc said.

CLAMPED

The Remparts were again missing some good players while missing Nathan Gaucher, James Malatesta, Thomas Darcy, Evan Nause and Mikaël Huchette. In the case of Malatesta, he will miss next month’s activity due to a broken foot he sustained against the Victoriaville Tigres last Thursday.

“It’s for sure, if it had to happen, it’s better there than it was during the playoffs. It gives other players ice time and it’s up to them to take advantage of it,” noted Patrick Roy.

In addition, due to the many absences, he had separated the duo of Théo Rochette and Zachary Bolduc and put them on two different trios. After a while, however, they were reunited in their usual unit, completed by Pier-Olivier Roy.

The Mooseheads were without Zachary L’Heureux and Logan Crosby. Recall that L’Heureux is still serving a ten-game suspension imposed by the QMJHL after shooting a fan after a game at Gatineau on February 8.

♦ The Remparts will resume their action with two games in two nights, first on Friday in Shawinigan to face the Cataractes, then in Sherbrooke the next day where they face Phoenix.
